Things to know before making a Fiberglass Pole for Tent:
There are 2 types of rods:
(1) GFRP tent poles with Insert - An insert is a tube (or sleeve) that is usually glued into one hollow end of the tent pole section and protrudes about 3 inches. This insert allows you to stack one section on top of another.
(2) Rods without inserts - these are hollow rods (sections) without inserts
To make a set of rods, it's usually best to draw it out on paper to determine how many sections and parts you'll need for each rod. Typically, you will need more sections with inserts than without. For example, if you wanted to make a pole with 4 sections (this would make a 6 foot pole), you would need 3 sections with inserts and 1 section without inserts. The reason you need the last part without an inset is: the picture stacks a part with an inset on top of another. If the last section has inserts, it won't allow you to insert the ends into the ends of the rod. So if you use the last part without the inserts, you will have a hollow end on each end of the rod so you can put one end on each end of the rod.
How to make GFRP Rod Tent Pole?
